Working in Benefit for Children's Health and Safety

Dear Contributor,

Thank you for your support of our SWIMBABES volunteer fundraiser's  efforts to spear-head medical research in Infant/Swim Health and Safety.

Drowning has become our nation's leading cause of accidental death for children under age 5. Near-drowning  accidents, resulting in serious brain         damage, take a lifetime toll in the emotional and financial resources of the families  impacted by these tragedies.

Since 1980, efforts have been made by our organization to elevate public awareness to the need for Infant/Toddler Swim Survival Safety, drowning and near-drowning  prevention.  The American Academy of Pediatrics, the NSSA Aquatic Professionals, Infant Child Development, and Motor Specialists across the United States are all in agreement that outside medical research and controlled studies in infant swim and  related health and safety issues should be undertaken immediately.

We are extremely encouraged to be able to announce at this time two doctors, Dr. Warren Guntheroth, MD, Professor of Pediatrics,                 University of Washington School of Medicine, and Dr. Phillip Spiers, an                    Epidemiologist with a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Oxford University, have agreed to act as consultants in  reviewing  proposals for medical research  to develop some of the controlled studies that are being  called for.

SWIMBABES™, Portland, Oregon has raised $10,000 to establish a fund with matching Dollars at the University of Washington School of medicine for this purpose.

We are hoping that our efforts here in Portland, OR will encourage other                organizations and researchers across the United States to join in and help us with the much-needed information.  This will help us educate the public and professionals alike to make swimming safe. .We love children.  We know you do too!

Thank you for your encouragement, your support and your contributions.

Sincerely, Jackie Young
