How to Prevent your child from drowning

AAP News – Drowning Prevention June 2013

“Here are some steps parents can take to help prevent their child from drowning.

Have your child take swimming lessons. Recent evidence shows that swimming lessons for children under 4 years of age will decrease their likelihood of drowning by 88%.”

Please note: while all children can benefit from swimming lessons, not all swimming lessons are created equal. If you teach your child to love the water, but do not teach any true life saving skills, your child could be at greater risk to themselves. Children who love the water and have no skill are the greatest risk of all.
